Ashtottari Dashaअष्टोत्तरी दशा

A less commonly used planetary-period system based on a 108-year cycle across 8 planets (Rahu and Ketu are not separately assigned periods in the standard form of this system, unlike Vimshottari) — classically considered particularly relevant for certain chart conditions, such as when the Moon is strongly placed.

In practice

Used far less often than Vimshottari in mainstream practice — mostly consulted as a secondary/specialist cross-check rather than a primary timing tool.

How it's calculated

Applicable when Rahu is in a Kendra (1st/4th/7th/10th) or Trikona (5th/9th) from Lagna. Sequence: Sun(6yr) → Moon(15) → Mars(8) → Mercury(17) → Saturn(10) → Jupiter(19) → Rahu(12) → Venus(21) = 108 years total. Starting planet determined by birth Nakshatra, beginning from Ardra.
