Dur Muhurtamदुर्मुहूर्त

One or two specific "muhurtas" (out of 15 equal segments spanning sunrise to sunset) that are inauspicious on a given weekday — a different, finer-grained system from Choghadiya.

In practice

New beginnings are traditionally avoided during a Dur Muhurtam window, similar in spirit to Rahu Kaal but based on a different classical division of the day.

How it's calculated

The day (sunrise to sunset) is split into 15 equal muhurtas (roughly 48 minutes each, scaled to the actual day length). Each weekday has 1 or 2 specific muhurta numbers marked inauspicious — for example, Sunday's 14th muhurta, or Saturday's 1st and 2nd.
