Gana Kootaगण
An Ashtakoot factor worth a maximum 6 points — classifies each birth Nakshatra into one of 3 temperament groups (Deva/godly-natured, Manushya/human-natured, Rakshasa/demon-natured) and checks how compatible the couple's temperaments are likely to be.
In practice
A Manushya-Rakshasa pairing (in either direction) is the most challenging combination and scores 0 (flagged in this app's doshas list as "Gana Dosh — temperament clash"); Deva-Rakshasa scores 1 as a lighter "partial clash" rather than a full dosh — this app shows that intermediate grade separately rather than only a full pass/fail.
How it's calculated
Each birth Nakshatra maps to one of the 3 Ganas via a fixed classical table; the groom's and bride's Ganas are compared against a compatibility grid, scored out of 6.
