Nail & Hair Cutting: Tithi Restrictions
A widely repeated popular belief holds that cutting nails or hair should be avoided on Amavasya (new moon), Ekadashi, Purnima (full moon), and Sankranti days.
In practice
If you follow this practice, the safest approach is to check this app's Tithi and Vrat indicators for the day and simply shift the activity to a non-restricted Tithi — there is no single day that is universal across all households.
How it's calculated
This app does not compute a grooming-specific verdict — it is not derived from any backend calculator. Check the Tithi and Vrat sections of today's Panchang directly to see if the current day is Amavasya, Ekadashi, Purnima, or Sankranti.
⚠ This is popular/folk belief repeated widely on astrology sites, not a rule this app computes or a claim traceable to a specific verse in Muhurta Chintamani, Narada Purana, or any Grihya Sutra. Weekday-based restrictions (e.g. "avoid Tuesdays") and any claimed interaction with Choghadiya time-blocks are far less consistent across sources and are deliberately omitted here — they vary by region and family and are not stated as fact.
