Moon Phaseचंद्र कला
The visible shape of the Moon as seen from Earth right now — new, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full, waning gibbous, last quarter, or waning crescent.
In practice
The waxing half of the month (new moon → full moon, called Shukla Paksha) is traditionally considered better for starting new things and growth-oriented activities; the waning half (full moon → new moon, Krishna Paksha) is considered better for completion, introspection, and letting go.
How it's calculated
Derived directly from the Moon's illuminated percentage and its angular relationship to the Sun.
