Namakarana Syllableनामकरण

Traditional Vedic naming (Namakarana) assigns a specific starting syllable to a child's name based on which Nakshatra and Pada (quarter) the Moon was in at birth — each of the 27 Nakshatras' 4 Padas has its own designated syllable.

In practice

This gives you a starting point (a specific syllable to begin the name with), not a complete name — the "Suggested Names" list then offers real names that begin with that syllable.

How it's calculated

A fixed classical lookup table maps each of the 108 Nakshatra-Pada combinations (27 Nakshatras × 4 Padas) to its own syllable.
