Vikram Samvat / Shaka Samvatसंवत्
Two different Hindu calendar era-year numbers shown alongside the Gregorian date — Vikram Samvat (traditionally said to begin 57 BCE) and Shaka Samvat (the Indian national civil calendar era, beginning 78 CE). Both run in parallel with the Gregorian year, just counting from a different starting point.
In practice
Mostly relevant for religious/cultural dating conventions and formal Hindu calendar references — most day-to-day Muhurta decisions don't depend on which era-year is shown.
How it's calculated
A fixed offset from the current Gregorian year, adjusted around the lunar new year.
