Varna Kootaवर्ण
The first and smallest-weighted Ashtakoot factor (maximum 1 point) — compares the "spiritual class" (Varna) each partner's Moon sign belongs to: Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya, or Shudra, said to reflect ego and spiritual compatibility.
In practice
Because it's worth only 1 of the 36 total points, Varna rarely makes or breaks an overall match on its own — it's one of the lighter-weighted factors compared to Nadi (8) or Bhakoot (7).
How it's calculated
Each of the 12 zodiac signs is classically assigned one of the 4 Varnas; the groom's and bride's Varnas are compared using a fixed compatibility rule (generally, the bride's Varna should be equal to or "lower" in the classical hierarchy than the groom's for a full point).
