An Ashtakoot factor worth a maximum 2 points — groups all 12 zodiac signs into 5 categories (Chatushpada/quadruped, Manava/human, Jalachara/aquatic, Vanachara/wild, Keeta/insect) and checks how much natural mutual attraction and control exists between the couple's groups.
In practice
Classically read as a measure of who tends to have the upper hand or natural influence in the relationship, and whether that dynamic is a comfortable, complementary one between the two groups involved.
How it's calculated
Each sign is classically assigned to one of 5 Vashya groups; a fixed compatibility table scores how well the groom's and bride's groups combine, out of 2 points.
