Bhava (House)भाव

One of 12 fixed life-areas that every birth chart is divided into — the 1st house is self/body, the 2nd is wealth/family, the 7th is marriage/partnerships, and so on — each house is "occupied" by whichever planets fall in it.

In practice

This app uses the whole-sign house system: the entire zodiac sign occupied by the Lagna becomes the 1st house, the next sign becomes the 2nd house, and so on — a simpler, older system than some Western house systems (like Placidus), though this app also computes Placidus cusps separately for KP-style analysis (see Bhava Chalit below).

How it's calculated

Whole-sign: house 1 = the Lagna's own sign, house 2 = the next sign forward, continuing around the zodiac.
